Ouidad Salon Experience in Fort Lauderdale
Two weeks ago I headed to Florida for a much needed getaway. I couldn't wait to lay out by the beach and Re-Lax! During my stay I took a quick trip to the new Ouidad Flasghip Salon in Fort Lauderdale and it was an awesome experience. When I arrived I was greeted by the receptionist and introduced to Sondriel and Chadwick, the two stylist who would be doing my hair. After I was offered a glass of water, we took a seat and started discussing some of my hair concerns and what I was looking for. I immediately began to tell them how one section of my hair had lost its definition and seemed to always be frizzy. We ruled out heat damage because the problem was confined to one section from root to end. Chadwick stated that it seemed as if that part of my hair had lost it's ability to hold its own internal weight. We then moved on to discussing the shape of my hair. My bangs had grown past my chin and I had lost the fullness at my crown so I was definitely due for a cut. Sondriel and Chadwick said they would guide me through each step as they treated and styled my hair so that I could also be educated.
First, they wet my hair so that they could examine my curls before beginning any treatments. Next, Sondriel cleansed my hair by using the Water Works Clarifying Shampoo to remove any build up. She then followed up with the Curl Quencher Moisturizing Conditioner and massaged it from root to end in sections before detangling with this awesome comb! It looked like two rows of a wide tooth comb and it a bit heavy. Sondriel explained that the two rows and the weight help to better detangle curls without tugging or ripping at them.
After the wash process, I was back in the chair to get my cut. First Chadwick started by trimming away any dead ends. He gave me volume at the crown to round out the shape and cut my bangs. The next thing he did was something I had never heard of in my life- CARVING! Now pay close attention because this gets a bit complicated. Basically, he cut small holes or divots into the back of my hair in order to show the true length of my hair. To understand this technique better, let me explain how my hair grows. I have a tighter curl towards the nape of my neck and these curls grow outward until they reach a length and start to become heavier and then they to start growing down. By using the carving and puzzling technique Chadwick is able to create small spaces in my hair and then the hair above it falls down into the spaces like a puzzle. This technique helped my hair appear a bit longer in the back .
After the cut Sondriel rinsed my hair and then began applying the deep treatment. They used the new Curl ImmersionTriple Treat Deep Conditioner to help jump start my curls, strengthen them and infuse them with tons of moisture. They explained that as I continued to use the treatment, over time I would see a difference in that trouble section I mentioned above. After thoroughly massaging the treatment through my hair in small sections, my hair was wrapped in plastic wrap and I was placed under the dryer so the magic could take place. After about 20 minutes or so, Sondriel washed the treatment out and it was time to style.
I opted for a Wash and Go instead of a twist out because my hair takes hours upon hours to dry. Just like the conditioner Sondriel massaged the Curl Quencher Moisturizing Styling Gel on small sections and then sat me under the hooded dryer to speed up the drying process. Once my hair was mostly dry, Chadwick used the blow dryer to dry my roots, separate the curls and add volume. We fluffed and played in my hair until the style fell into place and to finish it off he sprayed the Botanical Boost Curl Energizing & Refreshing Spray.
I had SO much fun at the salon. Not only did I leave with a refreshed shape but was it an amazing learning experience and we laughed and talked about a variety of things . I hope to go back soon. Check out a quick video of my experience below and my Day 2 results.
